Little Lion Design built a new website for fortyfivedownstairs, a gallery and theatre located in Melbourne, Australia, in early 2016.
As a not for profit organisation, fortyfivedownstairs has very limited resources yet requires a website that provides a seamless user experience. Their old website conformed perfectly to their branding guidelines but was not multi-platform and was time consuming and clunky to update. They were keen to have an updated site which looked more or less the same as their existing site, but functioned at a much higher level.
We used Total WordPress theme with The Events Calendar Pro to create a website which works perfectly across all platforms, and is easy for users to navigate, and super easy for the staff to update. To keep things affordable for the organisation we updated only the content and layout of pages they requested, and provided an in-depth written tutorial to enable them to maintain and update areas of the website as their resources allow.
One of the stipulations of the fortyfivedownstairs site redevelopment was that we used minimal plugins, and that no changes were made to the php of the site, in order to make ongoing site maintenance possible without the cost of ongoing technical support. This meant that we used The Events Calendar more or less out of the box, adding only Category Colours to specify theatre and gallery events, and using a Total module on the front page and individual menu items to allow users to navigate events more easily.
